NDC Videos Online

The three talks I gave at NDC a couple of weeks ago are now online.

If you want to hear me rant on Prima Donna Developers:

If you prefer a little less ranting and some patterns and anti-patterns on JavaScript and rubbish code:

And if you want to learn a little about ReST constraints and my opinion on the two-heads of ASP.NET MVC then watch this:

As much as I’d love to embed them directly here, WordPress doesn’t seem to want to let me. Links on the video will take you directly to vimeo.com

Australia: First Contact

We have a lot of users in Australia, yet we’ve never managed to get out over there for a conference. That’s about to change. Next week, myself and Sergey Coox (ReSharper Project Manager) will be heading to the Gold Coast for TechEd Australia. We are sponsoring the event as well as having a booth present. It is going to be a great opportunity to see and talk first-hand to our users and also a personal chance to get to see (albeit very little) of Australia. We will ship a few hundred “I see dead code” T-Shirts also, so make sure to stop by the booth to pick yours up.

ReSharper Tips and Tricks Demo

We’ve managed to secure one whole hour at the Create Demo Booth that will be in the exhibit area to hold a ReSharper Tips and Tricks session, similar to those that have taken place at other conferences. This will take place on Thursday 1st of September 1 pm – 2 pm. It will be somewhere in the Exhibitor area. Pass by the booth during the week for more details.

Agile 2011 Conference – Salt Lake City

image

As like last year, JetBrains is again a sponsor of Agile Conference and we will be exhibiting at this year’s event in Salt Lake City. Yegor (TeamCity), Maxim (YouTrack) and myself will be there for the entire week (August 8th-12th), showing some of the new features in our tools, as well as having a chance to interact with our users, which is one of the greatest things when attending conferences, talking to you and receiving your feedback.

Similar to all recent events, we are also using the opportunity to spend some time with customers on their premises, so if you are in and around Salt Lake City, be sure to let me know as soon as possible, if you are interested.

Finally, Daren Knopp has also been kind enough to set up a Nerd Dinner for Thursday August 11th seeing so many nerds are in town. RSVP here.

Session at DevDays in The Netherlands

My talk at DevDays in The Netherlands on Real World Architectures with MVC is now available on Channel 9. It was my first TechDays Belgium / DevDays The Netherlands and I was quite impressed with organization. Kudos to Katrien, Helen, and everyone else involved. I’m guessing the videos from TechDays will be online at some point too, on Channel 9.

Also, if you’re interested in more hands-on-in-depth coverage of MVC and are located in Europe, I’ll be doing a 4 day masterclass with Informator in September

TechDays Belgium and The Netherlands

We’ve only just come back from Mix 11 and are already preparing things for the next great .NET events taking place in Europe: TechDays Belgium and DevDays The Netherlands.

 image image

With over 3.000 delegates registered, it’s cut out to be a blast. JetBrains will be at both events, which slightly overlap.

We will be giving away our Dead Code T-Shirts as well as some other surprise swag we have to give away. Please make sure you stop by our booths to chat.

I’ll be doing a session at each event, a Deep Dive into MVC 3 at TechDays Belgium and Real World Architectures with MVC at DevDays in The Netherlands. I’ll also be giving a short 30 minute talk at the Speaker Corner in the Expo area on the 27th of April at 12:30 on using ReSharper to be more productive with Web Development.

See you there!

Mix…Here we come!

We are going to MIX! image

As one of the premier Microsoft conferences focused on Web Technology, MIX is all about Web, and we are going to be there to show what we have in stock for Web Developers.

With the upcoming release of ReSharper 6, which adds support for JavaScript, CSS and HTML, as well as Razor View Engine, and of course our slew of Web Development IDE’s including WebStorm, PyCharm, PHPStorm and RubyMine, you can be pretty certain that there is something that suites you!

Stop by our booth. We’d love to meet you in person!

And as always, our Spending time with you program is open, so if you’d like to meet up at your offices, ping me

MIX Open Call Sessions

I have a couple of talks up for voting for MIX 2011. If you’re interested in hearing my speak about any of these topics, would love the vote.

Thanks

MVC – Breaking the Mold

Hadi Hariri

ASP.NET MVC is in its third incarnation and despite numerous improvements, when creating large scale applications, problems arise. If you don’t take the right steps, your code can soon turn into a big ball of mud. However, with a few conventions, a twist to routing and some voodoo magic, we can create a much better architecture that allows for sustainable code and increased productivity. In this session we’ll see how to refactor ASP.NET MVC as it comes into a cleaner architecture, allowing for a better approach to writing applications.

Working with Dynamic keyword effectively in Web Applications

Hadi Hariri

Whether we like to admit it or not, dynamic languages are very popular, especially when it comes to web development. They offer a series of benefits over statically typed language that can enhance productivity. With the introduction of the new dynamic keyword in C# 4.0, we’ll examine certain ways of using it to obtain some of the advantages dynamic languages provide us in a statically-typed world and how used appropriately, the benefits it offers outweigh any potential disadvantages.

ReST Architectures with ASP.NET MVC

Hadi Hariri

Creating ReST architectures with ASP.NET MVC is more than just decorating actions with verbs. It’s about leveraging HTTP as an application protocol to its full potential. In doing so, we can create robust and scalable applications, not only from a performance point of view but also in terms of change and maintainability. ASP.NET MVC offers us great potential to create ReST architectures that can be consumed by computers and humans alike, reducing the amount of effort involved. Come to this session to learn what ReST is really about and how we can create simple yet powerful systems with ASP.NET MVC.

CodeMash, here we come!

image

What is there to do in Sandusky, Ohio, in the middle of Winter with sub-zero temperatures and snow? Well CodeMash of course, which takes place from the 12th to the 14th of January.

JetBrains is not only Adamantium sponsor, but will also be there! We will have a booth and a vendor session where we’ll show some of the upcoming features in ReSharper 6 as well as some of our other tools.

I’d love to say that if you’ve not signed up to CodeMash, make sure you do, but it would be useless. They sold out on the 3rd day! So if you’re one of the lucky ones that has a ticket, please stop by and say hello!

Our vendor Session will be on Thursday from 3 pm. I’ll also be doing a session on CouchDB on Thursday at 4:50 pm.

This is the first of a series of great events planned for 2011, so stay tuned!

Happy New Year!

We’re going to NDC!

JetBrains will be exhibiting at the Norwegian Developer Conference next week. Myself, Oleg “Don’t EVER separate me from my iPad” Stepanov, Eugene “If there’s anything you want to know about ReSharper, he’s your man” Pasynkov and Eugene Petrenko from TeamCity will be there.

We’ll be doing demos, prize raffles, and of course giving out the (now famous) “I see dead code” T-Shirts.

f

I’ll also be giving 3 talks, one on CouchDB, another on Code Contracts and a third on Mocking. Conference organizers have been kind enough to spread them out for me over the 3 days so that I cannot get smashed until the last night. Oh well! You know what they say: If you’re going to Norway and want it to be legal, it’s got to happen at NDC.

So if you’re going to NDC and want to discuss any issues, tell us about your next feature request that will revolutionize the world, get a T-Shirt or even (I know…sounds crazy) say hello, stop by our booth.

See you there!

DevConnections, C2C, Poland Mini-Tour. And then Birmingham

Next week some of the JetBrains crew will be in Las Vegas, Nevada and from what I hear, apparently its going to be work-related (still, it’s Vegas. There’s always time to play).

We’re going to be at DevConnections, where we’ll be launching ReSharper 5, to coincide with the Visual Studio 2010 launch so if you are in the vicinity, come by our booth. There’s going to be a bunch of us there and you can come and meet some of the developers behind ReSharper.

Apart from seeing the latest and greatest ReSharper 5 features, you can find out about our latest product, dotCover, as well as all some of the other tools we have (dotTrace, TeamCity, YouTrack or even RubyMine). You might even win some prizes!

I’ll also be giving a vendor session on Test Driven Development of ASP.NET MVC Applications at 5:30 pm on April 13th, where you’ll see some MSpec and of course the new features for ASP.NET MVC we have in ReSharper.

After Vegas, I’ll be heading out to Warsaw for the Communities to Communities Conference, where I’ll have a talk on (yep, you guessed it) Architecting ASP.NET MVC Applications and then from there, on to a mini-tour of User Groups in Poland with The Undutchable and others. I was meant to go to Wroclaw, Krakowice and Krakow, but unfortunately I can only do Wroclaw. So the mini-tour has become a very mini tour for me. And what’s worse, I’ll miss some home-made Barszcz. Sorry Krzysztof :( .

Week after that I’ll be at the VBUG4Though conference in Birmingham.

And remember, if you’re in Vegas and you run into me after  9 pm, I might not sound too coherent.

Actually make that 9 am.
